Social Worker Service
Dyslexia in the Workplace
Hi, I’m Debbie, a parent with two grown-up boys and four grandchildren
I qualified as a nursery nurse 1986. I then worked as a residential social worker in children’s homes and homes for adults and children with Learning Difficulties
I trained as a social worker and qualified 1997 with Diploma in Social Work and Degree in Social Science from Middlesex University
Since qualifying, I have worked in youth offending services, in various roles up to manager of prevention services and also working in Learning and Development and Practice Education supporting social workers – in particular, those who are newly qualified social workers and those new to management. I completed my Masters in Social Work -Practice Education at Goldsmiths University.
Parallel to working within social work I have developed an interest in alternative and holistic coaching and healing and have undertaking numerous courses to build up a private practice combining all my experience.
Pivotal to all this was my own diagnosis of dyslexia in 2011, which was a shock and an eye opener to me having already gaining my degree in 1997 and going through secondary and further education without this being picked up. After my diagnosis, I started to make sense of how I function and why how my daily routines were completed in a particular way, which, some people may say is unorganised others say fearsomely or maybe even intuitively.

I want to mentor and coach and set up a healing hub for 1-1 services.
I have a passion for adults with dyslexia in the work place, particularly those working in Social Care.
Finally, I want to offer my services to Social Services (that is children services and adult care) to work with social workers who are struggling with work offering reflective supervision, coaching and mentoring.
